Saturdays at Seven - An Interview with Todd Ream from Christian Scholar's Review

In the forty-eighth episode of the third season of the “Saturdays at Seven” conversation series, Todd Ream talks with Hans Boersma, the Order of St. Benedict Servants of Christ Endowed Professorship in Ascetical Theology at Nashotah House Theological Seminary. Boersma begins by discussing the working relationship he, as an Anglican theologian, shares with Matthew Levering, a Catholic theologian, and the way that relationship reflects advancing ecumenical relations. In previous generations, the thought that an Anglican theologian and a Catholic theologian would, for example, lead a project on sacramental theology would have proven impossible. Efforts such as the one Boersma and Levering led on that topic, however, proved how far relations advanced over the course of their respective lifetimes. Boersma then discusses his own calling to serve as a theologian, the role his study of history played, and the ways the Church Fathers and Resourcement theologians influenced him. That calling led him to begin his career at Trinity Western University, serve several years at Regent College (Vancouver), and now find a home at Nashotah House Theological Seminary. Regardless of where he served, a theme Boersma weaves into his reflections is the way theologians, while often finding formal appointments in colleges, universities, and seminaries, are called to exercise their vocation in service to the Church.
